Making major steps towards having a design book out by Christmas

One of the local cultural festivals I'll be doing this fall, stART in Worcester, MA, is giving me a HUGE incentive to get going with this pattern book I've been working on this year. If I made 25 "mini art pieces" for them to give out to their attendees, they will hand out one of my postcards to the first 400 (anyway, close to 400). Now, this doesn't sound quite like the best deal ever, but it is actually going to work out very nicely.

Why?
Because my "mini art pieces" will be cardboard pieces cut out in the shape of my hand, which I'll then decorate henna-style. Perhaps I'll have them as bookmarks, perhaps laminated and turned into magnets...or...? (ideas on this are most welcomed) But the main point is that I will be drawing at least 25, and maybe more, henna designs off the top of my head... on paper, not bodies. So...I'll just high-res-scan them into my computer (VERY high res) and...voila! Designs for my upcoming book!

I'm looking into publishing options for doing a photo/howto/coffeetable/design book, along the lines of Sumita Batra's book... mostly it looks like this will be expensive. I may well go the route of self-publishing e-books. Any advice on this would be very welcomed, too.
